The popular swimming pool (pictured – website) has been run by a charitable trust since 1996 and is used by local schools, private swimming classes and local swimming and water sports clubs such as Hoylake ASC and Peninsula Canoe Club. The grant of £41,870 will be spent on installing new efficient heating and lighting systems and improved changing facilities.
The funding for the pool is part of a much larger project that has benefited over 1,000 sports projects across England to the tune of £16.6M. The fund is part of Sport England’s Places People Play Olympic and Paralympic legacy programme. All improved facilities will carry the London 2012 Inspire mark (pictured), celebrating their link to the Games.
Sport England’s Chief Executive, Jennie Price, said: “We have had such a fantastic response from sports clubs to Inspired Facilities that we’ve reached our target of making 1,000 grants a year early. Demand remains strong so we will offer a further £20 million of funding over the next 15 months.”
Calday Pool last received a lottery grant in 2008 to install a stairlift and hoist to provide access to the pool for disabled swimmers.
