Friday Photo: Railway Bridge

railway bridge

This is the view from the foot bridge over the Wirral line at Orrysdale Road, looking in the direction of West Kirby station. A regular route for me as I use it as a cut through on one of my runs. Would anybody happen to know when this bridge was built? Please a comment if you do.

Friday Photo: Ashton Park Bridge

Ashton Park bridge

We call this the Ashton Park bridge. It crosses the Wirral Way and joins the upper and lower sections of the park. Do those metal arches actually serve any purpose?

Friday Photo: New Petrol Station

construction

I am presuming that the construction work (pictured) opposite the Concourse is the start of the new petrol station. A new petrol station was a pre-condition of Aldi getting planning approval for their yet-to-built store in Bridge Road.

Can anyone confirm that is indeed the site of the new garage?

Friday Photo: Big Rocks On The Beach

big rocks

As work continues on the wall repair at Marine Lake, these big rocks lay in the sand waiting to be put back in place as tide breaks.

Friday Photo: West Kirby Bowling Club

Here’s the popular West Kirby bowling club taken in February before the 2009 season began.

You can read more about the club in The Vics blog.

Friday Photo: Sea Kayaking

sea kayaking

Here’s a photo of two hardy souls in their kayaks in the River Dee. I took this photo on 5th November 2006 from the path that circle Marine Lake. I recall that it was rather on the chilly side so I bet the river was freezing!

Friday Photo: West Kirby Duck Pond

duck pond

Ashton Park has this large duck pond with lots of well fed ducks. Be a responsible feeder and follow the advice on the signs. Don’t forget to take away your empty bread bags too.

Friday Photo: St Bridgets Church

st bridgets church

Here’s St Bridgets Church taken back in January of this year. I think I’m right in saying it’s the only church in the area that has church bells.

I’m certainly right in saying that it’s the only church that I’ve got married in !

Friday Photo: The Dee Hotel

Dee Hotel

I took this photo of The Dee Hotel last December. This must have been a grand building in it’s hey day. Plonking a bus stop right outside the front door doesn’t do much to improve the visual appeal. The pub was converted to a Wetherspoon free house a few years ago and to be honest I’ve never felt inclined to venture inside.

Friday Photo: Emptied Marine Lake

marine lake emptied

Well, it took a couple of days but now Marine Lake has been emptied and the work on the wall repairs has commenced. I ran past the lake on Monday (the path is now closed of course) and I have to say that there was a bit of a pong! I could see a few dead eels too.
