Hello,

Prior to my parents being licencee's a Mrs Reynolds Jones owned the Hydro a very formidable woman !.
My mother was employed as the lunchtime cook at the hotel ,Mrs Reynold Jones and my mother became very good friends - at that time my parents and I lived in Moreton, each morning Mrs Reynolds Jones would send her chauffered Bently to collect my mother on the days she worked !.
Mrs Reynold Jones sold the Hotel to the Tetley Walker Brewey late 1963,my parents applied to the brewery to take over as managers.
Fabulous place inside, sunken pool, ice cream parlour, endless rooms & cellers stuffed with old furniture, books, clothes etc .

Regards
Louise.

Hello Louise

Thanks for getting in touch - nice to hear from you! Thanks for dates about the demolition, I was hoping to find out when the building was demolished.

Kind regards

John

Hi,

I lived in the Hydro Hotel from 1964 to 1968,my parents Sam & Dot Kirkpatrick were the last licensee's of the Hydro.
The Hotel was partly demolished late 1967 and fully demolished mid 1968.

Found out more about the Hydro Hotel.

In another book I have it was stated that the Hydopathic Hotel later named Hoylake Hotel was demolished in the late 60's (no firm date was given) to make way for Hilbre Court which is now on the site.
Ironically the petrol & service station that was located at the south end of Banks road, was called 'The Hydro' but was demolished a few years ago to build more flats named 'Hydro Court' so the name lives on.

Found this in a book I have:

The West Kirby Hydopathic Hotel, as it was originally know, was opened in 1890 and was extended in 1896. In September 1933 the name was changed to 'The Hoylake Hotel' as Hoylake was better known nationally for it's Golf Club.

Reproduced from: West Kirby to Hoylake. Jim O'Neil.
