Many thanks to Derek Longman for sending in this old image of Grange Hill. The date is presumed to be around 1900 and the stamp on the rear is one of King George V. It’s quite hard to recognise whereabouts on Grange Hill that photograph was taken.
Derek is a founder the Friends of Grange Hill (some background information) and as part of the community project a new website is now underway right here. While the site is not quite complete at time of writing, you can read about the history of the memorial and the why the Friends of Grange Hill was formed last year.
[UPDATE]: Local resident Clive Grey comments: “The photo is taken from the side path going along the west side of the hill. The giveaway is the turn in the boundary wall as it runs down towards Gerard Road off the hill.” Clive has produced this map:
