		<description>I think that the bridge was originally glazed between the hoops but might be wrong on this - it wouldn&#039;t last 5 minutes these days! As I recall, there are a couple of metal plates, over each trackway at floor level on outside of bridge, that are/were there in order to divert steam coming from passing trains.
In years past, we would get someone to shin over and stand on them, then fake-beat on his hands when any unsuspecting member of public passed by, as he &#039;screamed&#039; for mercy against the fall he was about to (not) take when we broke his grip. Such japes!!</description>
