Merseyside Police can confirm it has arrested a man following an incident in West Kirby last night, Tuesday, 3 December.
Patrols were called to a house on Paton Close (map pictured), just before 9.40pm, following reports that a man had been assaulted.
On arrival, officers found a man in his 40s with stab wounds. He was taken to Arrowe Park Hospital by paramedics but was pronounced dead a short time later.
Officers are in the process of confirming his identity and tracing his next of kin. An Home Office post mortem examination will be carried out to establish the cause of death.
A 38-year-old man from the Birkenhead area was arrested on suspicion of murder earlier this morning (Wednesday 4, December) in connection with the incident. He has been taken to a police station on Merseyside where he is being questioned.
At this stage, Paton Close remains cordoned off whilst a forensic examination of the area is carried out and house-to-house enquiries are being conducted.
High visibility patrols have also been stepped up in the area to reassure residents.
